Millions of people across the globe celebrated the beginning of the Lunar New Year this weekend. The Rabbit is one of the 12 zodiac animals the lunisolar calendar cycles through, with this year’s element being Water.
The celebration is often also dubbed the Spring Festival, as it signifies the turn of the seasons – lasting for 15 days allowing people the opportunity to celebrate with their loved ones and welcome in the new year. Festivities across China, Korea, Vietnam, Japan, Mongolia, and other communities that celebrate include Lion and Dragon dances, lantern parades, and family feasts.
In a year led by the luckiest animal of them all, it is often deemed by Chinese culture to be a good time for business prosperity. Team growth, conquering new territories, bringing new ideas to market – you name it, the year of the Rabbit is the perfect opportunity to do it.
People born in the year of the Rabbit are believed to be vigilant, witty, quick-minded and ingenious. The animal is also said to signify mercy, elegance and beauty.
Chinese culture has always regarded rabbits as auspicious, so much so that China’s first moon rover was named ‘Yu Tu’ which translates to Jade Rabbit! If you’re working on a new technology or medicine this year, you might consider incorporating the Rabbit into the project name – it might bring some extra luck to your venture…
