In just a few days, 45,000 pharma professionals will descend on the IFEMA Feria de Madrid as the doors open for CPhI Worldwide. This week has no doubt been a blur of last minute preparations to ensure the show runs smoothly for you and your team, so we thought it might be time you sat back with a cuppa and enjoyed a little insight into the lighter side of CPhI…

Having attended CPhI for over 12 years, we’ve seen it all. The good. The bad. And the ugly. So, we thought we’d have a bit of fun with the types of personalities you might encounter. And if you’ve never encountered any of these? Just make sure you’re not one of them…

The stealer…

We’ve all seen this person. Rocks up at the stand. No interest in your company. No intentions of talking to you. But armed with a tote bag (and/or suitcase – we’re not even kidding) ready to swipe all of your merchandise. Stress balls. Pens. USB sticks. Power banks. They’ll take it all. Worse yet? They’ll look you directly in the eye as they’re doing it, and you’ll just stand there. Speechless. Wondering how on earth they’re going to get their haul home.

The interrupter…

Time is precious at CPhI. So many meetings. So little time. But this person has no regard for your schedule and who you’re talking to. They will walk onto your stand and stop your conversation in the most awkward, cringe-worthy fashion. There’s a pretty high probability that they’ll be waving their product sheet in your face as they try and sell you their API.

The rusher…

We’ve all seen this poor soul. Hasn’t accounted for the distance between halls when arranging meetings (let’s face it we’ve all been there) and finds themselves having to run to make it on time. Consequently arriving at their next meeting dripping with sweat or about to pass out. If you’re this person, leave the jacket on. No one wants to see your patches.

The drinker…

The drinks events. Probably the best part of CPhI, I think we’ll all agree? But there’s always one who gets a bit too carried away with the free booze and gets a little too tipsy. Also commonly known as ‘the oversharer’. As the drinks are flowing, so is the gossip. Not to mention the fact that nobody knows who they are and they’ve turned up uninvited.

The recluse…

CPhI Worldwide. Arguably the biggest industry networking event in the pharma world. Yet there’s always one recluse tucked away in a corner, hiding behind their laptop or phone (which is also plugged in charging to make absolutely sure they’re never left without it). Avoiding eye contact with anybody. Maybe even indulging in the old ‘fake important phone call’. We get it. Networking can be hard, especially if you’re not a salesperson. But at CPhI, most people are there to meet other people. That’s literally the point of the whole thing. Our advice: put the phone away and put yourself out there. It’s not as scary as you think. Promise.

So, there you have it. A round up of typical CPhI-goers. We’d love to know if there’s any you think we’ve missed… and if you’re brave enough, tell us which one you relate to the most!
